Phonemic Awareness is a huge component in ensuring student success in reading and spelling. It is very common for poor readers to demonstrate a weakness in phonological awareness. They often become poor spellers as well. With this in mind, I have created this resource to help practice some of these phonological awareness skills in a fun way during distance learning. My students absolutely loved the scavenger hunts that we did and really loved sharing the objects they found. I would select a few students to share for each slide so I could check for understanding and use those teachable moments if their items didn't work.

This resource will get your students out of their seats and finding objects in their homes, accounting to the slide you are sharing with them during your GOOGLE MeetZOOM, or other Video Meeting program. This is great because you are getting them moving while practicing phonological awareness skills.

I often used this activity as a reward! However, it can be used whenever you see fit.

Phonemic Awareness Skills

Beginning Sounds

Syllables

Rhyming (Short & Long Vowel)

Short & Long Vowel Sounds

Guess My Word (Blending)

Substitution (Short & Long Vowel - Beginning, Middle, End)

*There are two slides for every skill (except Guess My Word) You could make a copy and do one set of all the skills one day and do the others another day. Example: Short Vowels one day and Long Vowels a different Day. Choose how you best see fit for your students.

Use the blank slides at the end to create more or your own with your own clipart or images.
